Dr. Vittal,

This is very interesting.

I agree that we did not celebrate Smt. P. Susheela's career as we could have or should have.
We as Telugu people could have done better. However, Nominating for National awards is probably not the only way we come to such a conclusion.

I listen to her all the time and I am sure most of our members and Telugu people at large
enjoy her melodious songs every day. In my mind that is celebration too!

You may ask what she gets in return if people just listen to her? Satisfaction!
Why I care if she sang 40,000 songs or 50,000 songs, unless I enjoy? I listen to her because I enjoy her voice. She lives in the hearts of millions of people, and that is what she gets
for her dedication to her art.

Politicians may have their own reasons why they see that some get recognized with awards and some not. That is not a reflection on how Telugu People at large think about this.

If you want to generalize that politicians did not care because people did not care, it is a far fetched conclusion in my mind. If we agree to this generalization, we need to agree that politicians do what people like them to do all the time! We know for sure that is not the case either, most of the time.

Now, you pointed out the symptom, no matter what the reasons are. What you/we want to do about it? How can we make people convince politicians, and apply pressure should  that be required to get proper recognition to such personalities as Smt. P. Suseela?

I do not see why you not participating in this forum will help? I would think, you should be more active instead to convince all us to realize and support (y)our cause. Even if we agree that we generally do not care!

AndhraOne and all our members are actively exploring ways to make a difference.
They have made their contributions for various causes already and are willing to do more in many different areas.

Please contribute, educate, and motivate so worthy causes like celebrating and recognizing our greats is also addressed.

Finally, in this particular case, how can AndhraOne and its members support? We are standing ready to do our share, and looking for your leadership on this.

Regards,
Chandu

Those who may not know, P. Susheela, who has about 40,000 songs to her
credit, was not nominated for any prestigious national awards. The
great Lata Mangeshkar, recipient of Bharat Ratna, is quite fond of P.
Susheela and Asha Bhonsle is a known fan of P Susheela.

But what did P Susheela get? Nothing! Political parties will not get
any benefit by nominating her.

AP State Government, over a period of 50 years, has nominated several
worthless actors and actresses for national awards. Even Sania Mirza
has received PadmaSri after playing Tennis in international circuit for
one year. You know the reason behind these decisions.

One of the reasons why I do not participate in this forum is because no
one really cares for the state, its prestige, and its great citizens
who brought laurels.

You better wake up and learn something from Tamilians, Bengalis,
Punjabis, and Maharashtrians.
