Re: "Democracy is meaning less without education"- Re: cash-for-query scam

Hi All,

Nice points Srinivas garu. Granted illiterates get
exploited more than literates, I donno if illiteracy
itslef is the root cause of the corruption. I think
our moral values and our upbringing greatly influnce
who you are and who you grow up to be in the soceity.
Here is an example from my life. Two people I know:
One is one of best friends (say Person 1) and another
is an elder brother to our classmate (say Person 2).
I know both of these people from my childhood. Both
got selected into Police Force as SI's at the same
time. Person 2 was extremely corrupt, was hand in
glove with all the corrupt politicians wherever he was
posted. He was doing this from day 1. Person 1 was
very honest and was a terror to local goons and
corrupt wherever he was posted. After 5 years of
service and 5 transfers, Person 1 quit because he
could not take the abuse anymore. Person 2 became
very rich and politicians are vying to have him in
their constituencies. This is the reality. I was in
India in May, and met Person 1. He had a dairy of his
service (paper clippings, news clips, etc) and we were
discussing the situation. His general observations
were:

Higher ups ( in Department chain) respect you immensly
if you are honest though they do not express the same
directly to you. Corrupts get very bad treatment from
the higher ups.

Just wanted to share my experiences since the
discussion was so apt.

Thanks
Jitendra
