Re: "Democracy is meaning less without education"- Re: cash-for-query scam

Dear Groopies,

Good discussions and excellent points raised!!! Now that the topic of
education is on the table, let me point to this about my education: I was
educated in a private school, elementary through graduate school for which
my parents paid fees that kept increasing, although I sound exaggerating, in
geometrical proportions with respect to the rate of inflation.

Now we all know that Indians are known world over for their excellent
education. But the fact remains that it is due to the work done by private
institutions that fleece parents with their demands for donations (although
this is regulated by government agencies). While there are government
schools, I would like to get a feeling as to how many of us including the
elite (political/industry) in India would send our kids to a Government
school.

I see the argument coming. What about RECs, IITs, etc.? While they are world
renowned for their excellence in education, even though they are government
run, they haven't been demonstrating scalability. The number of seats
haven't increased to keep up with the demand of the merited students. And
considering the amount of money that is spent on them, only a disgusting
fraction of them return to government services while a great number of them
are captured by the MNCs.

Of course, I am aware that I am opening a can of worms but in my opinion we
need a massive revolution in the area of education.

It will be nice if we can influence a start of a pilot project for 10
Government run schools (elementary through high school to start with) be
started in some remote rural regions with only a direct reporting to the
ministry of education and the CM/PM's office. The details can be worked out
with a brainstorm by many a minds of this group.

Santosh
